The history of the Chancel Choir begins around 1969, earlier history as of the present time has not been found. I remember as a child my parents singing in the Choir at The First United Methodist Church of Reddick, so I know that they did have special music. In 1969 Jacquie Stroup Joyner graduated from college and became the choir director. I began singing in that choir at the age of 18. Jacquie directed the choir for 24 years and felt she needed a break so I took over for her at that time in 1993, Jacquie continued to sing for us.

Over the past 36 years the choir, now known as the Chancel Choir, has presented many Christmas & Easter cantatas, Sunday morning anthems. The choir has also presented numerous other special gospel music for our church family. Some of the cantatas are done in biblical dress with narrations by choir members themselves. We have a woman's and and plan to add a men's ensemble soon. These are made of members and others who may not have time to sing in the choir full time but would like to share their talent on occasion. We have on occasion taken our music ministry to other churches. This past years for the first time on June 5, 2005 we presented a "Praise The Lord" cantata, comprised of our favorite anthems of the choir. It touched our hearts as well as our members.

The music ministry is important to The First United Methodist Church of Reddick and all but 2 pastors since I have been a part of the choir have has sang with us.

The Chancel Choir is a close family but we always have room for more members. We praise the Lord with song and have great Christian fellowship with each other. We meet on Sunday evenings from 5:30 - 7:30 PM for practice. You do not have to know how to read music, but being able to carry a tune helps, the only thing we ask of you is to be at practice and there on Sunday morning to praise God in song. Your dedication is all it takes to be blessed and bless others.

The choir takes a break in the summer but returns the first week of September. Please come and join our music ministry and fell God working within you. The church and my music is a very big part of my life and I love singing praises to the Lord! May God richly bless you!!
